Hans T. Sternudd
Born in 1958, lives and works in Lund, Sweden.
Hans T. Sternudd is an artist who focus on action and performance art. During the years 1992-2006 he was performing under the name of the belacqua project.
Since 2007 he is performing under his own name and in the last year he is executing the series Works. His performances is highly influenced by expressionistic traditions, formally and thematically with references to action painting, German expressionist art, the Vienna actionists etc.
The actions of Sternudd are carried out in a ritualistic style, with meticulously worked out visual, sound, video smell and (sometimes) tasteful effects. The action creates an image and a soundscape that slowly evolves and changes, combining a minimalistic repetitive behavior with expressionistic outbursts.
The theme of the performances are often taken from his personal experiences, but they also reflect broader issues like identity, communication breakdowns, and existential issues like for instance life and death.
Sternudd also address theoretical questions concerning action and performance art as a researcher, lecturer and practically through workshops. At the moment he is working on a research project that focus on questions about pain and visuality.
